The
Volunteer Fire Brigade Kirchohsen is the main fire service in the
District of
Emmerthal
in the
south of the
County of
Hameln-Pyrmont
(Lower
Saxony). Kirchohsen is with 3258 inhabitants the largest village of the
district and forms together with the directly bordering villages Emmern
and Hagenohsen the center of the
district. The village has on
two sides the
rivers Weser and the Emmer, on the
third side is the Federal Highway 83
from Hameln that runs to Holzminden. At opposite edge is the
Valentinibridge over
the river
Weser this is convenient route between Hameln and
Hehlen, which leads to the fact that despite by-pass road (B83) a high
traffic volume in Kirchohsen prevails.
Several
super markets are in the center of the village, which of many customers
from the neighbouring villages use as alternative to the frequently
overfilled town of Hameln. In addition several industrial companies are
situated in the local area,
with biological, pharmaceutical and chemical
products.
The largest industrial concern however is the nuclear power station
Grohnde, which lies approx. 1km upstream on the left of the
river
Weser.
The
District Fire Brigade
of
Emmerthal consists of 17 village forces, which are
distributed on 4 main bases (Kirchohsen, Amelgatzen, Börry and Grohnde).
In addition there is a Works fire service (nuclear power station
Grohnde) in the
district.
In the year 1954 the
County of
Hameln Pyrmont opened a
County
Hose Care Establishment in Kirchohsen, which has developed into a modern
Fire Brigade technical center (FTZ) with four technical employees.
The
FTZ
is used by nearly all fire-brigades of the
county
for hose care,
central storage depot, respiratory protection, pumps and radio repairs.
In addition the
County of
Hameln-Pyrmont has vehicles for special task
stationed here, also a training facility for the technical training of
the Fire Brigade members from the
County of
Hameln-Pyrmont.
Since 1971 the Fire Brigade Kirchohsen is accommodated at the FTZ,
agreements between the
District
of Emmerthal and the
County of
Hameln-Pyrmont ensure that the fire-brigade Kirchohsen station is in the FTZ
and that the special vehicles are manned by the comrades of the Fire
Brigade Kirchohsen. From this constellation came the Hazardous Materials
(HazMats) Platoon witch is strengthened by interested comrades of the
Fire Brigades Hagenohsen and Emmern.
Today the Volunteer
Fire Brigade Kirchohsen has 55 members, 52 men and
three women. The senior
section consists of
seven comrades, who left the active service sections
at the age limit of 62 years. In our youth department (Junior Fire
Brigade) are 18 members (three girls) and are preparing at present for the
service in the active sections,
which they can enter at the age of 16.
The Junior Fire Brigade has also young people from Emmern, Ohr and
Hämelschenburg.
The
personnel-strongest department is the sponsoring members, it has 150
members.
